Style & Stories / QUARRY Jewellery

Tell us about your work?

QUARRY, founded in 2011, places emphasis on sculptural and minimal forms rendered in both precious and base metals. In following with its name, each collection features a unique selection of precious stones and minerals set into arching geometries and an elliptical modernism – influenced by architecture. Each piece is handmade in our Lower East Side studio in NYC.

What materials do you use?

14k Gold, Silver, White Bronze, Brass and a variety of minerals and precious stones.

Where and how did you learn your craft?

I studied Furniture Design at Rhode Island School of Design and did a lot of welding during my course there.  It was an easy transition from welding to soldering. Everything else I do is self taught.

Describe your workspace…

Both organized and chaotic. Each piece requires so many small parts and finding a place for them all is challenging. Having said that, it is a joy to go into my studio everyday.

What inspires you, both in your work and life in general?

For now, my inspirations are: sculpture from the Cycladic period and the sculpture of François Stahly,  earthen architecture in Timbuktu, lighting by Barrault-Delrod and Michael Anastassiades, furniture by Gerard van den Berg and architecture by Konstantin Melnikov. For the AW17 collection, we focused on the subtle curves and contours of the mabe pearl (also known as blister pearls) as the inspiration for the designs. The mabe pearl’s natural form fits perfectly into QUARRY’s emphasis on minimal, organic modernism.
